What is RT60 reverb?
Reverberation time, or RT60, is a metric which describes the length of time taken for a sound to decay by 60 dB from its original level. Optimal reverberation times vary depending on room volume, intended use of the space and the frequency of transmitted sound.
What is an RT60 test?
RT60 is a measure of how long sound takes to decay by 60 dB in a space that has a diffuse soundfield, meaning a room large enough that reflections from the source reach the mic from all directions at the same level.
What is the best reverberation time?
For average control room volumes, preferred reverberation times fall into the 0.3 to 0.4 second range. In recording studios the reverberation times are variable, and range between 0.8 and 1.5 seconds, depending on the size of the room.
How is reverberation time measured?
The reverberation time of a space is defined as the time required for the sound level of a room to decay by 60db after the signal has stopped. For example, if the sound in a room took eight seconds to decay from 120db to 60db, the reverberation time would be eight seconds.
